House extension finished, lovely garage for me car and bike etc. Problem is the concrete floor is as dusty as hell..! I know it's something to do with it drying/curing and will probably be dusty for some time.

Without going mad I was looking at floor covering. I bought some International Garage floor paint that I'll probably be taking back unopened....

Does anyone out there use any floor covering and what are they..?

Cheers!

I'd sweep it out then pour a mix of PVA glue and warm water over it, it will create a nice dust tight seal but allow any moisture out as it's all water based.

Yup, PVA it. If your walls arent plastered etc either, brush some PVA/water mix into any exposed breeze blocks.

I painted mine with screwfix branded floor paint, its been fine for most things, but if i kick the jack sideways, the edges of the metal wheels peels it off dead easy. I guess most paint would suffer from that though.

Yep, got some exposed grey "Thermalite" blocks in there, was going to paint them white to enhance the light.

Was thinking about getting these :

I recently did mini with epoxy, should have done years ago. Expensive but well worth it, used 10 gallons and 2 gallons clear.
No more dust!

Oh I need to do this to my garage.

We use Silka floor paint at work but this is probably overkill for a domestic garage and its pricey. (But I have seen people selling off the odd unopened barrel they they no longer need on eBay or Gumtree) There is a company called Zircon Flooring and they have some good info on epoxy or polyurethane floor paints if you're interested

I used epoxytech after much research. Applied with a rubber squeegee and back rolled. Needed 2 coats and had to sand the bubbles after the first coat.

If you're going to coat the floor with anything, you should leave it for a minimum of 4 weeks, preferably a little longer. I'm no concreter, but I think the concrete expels gas for some time after pouring. It's what our local concrete suppliers suggest.

Correct and it will need to be etched.

Anything to surpress the dust! Just seen in home base some plastic sheeting, might try that for now, just need to stop the dust :-(

I had same problem. Still having dust off the block walls years later.

Give it a good chance to dry out, the deeper the concrete the longer you'll have to leave it.

Epoxy looks like a good job, haven seen it myself.

Buy some floorpaint and prime / size the floor with a diluted down coat first.

Second the curing time. I cast a new edge onto a slab. The slab's painted beautifully but the step eventually blistered a month or so later even though it had a few weeks before painting.

If you're going to paint blocks, brush on cement wash (just very runny mortar) as undercoat. You'll get a better finish and save paying for gallons of emulsion.

Those tiles look OK but for a garage will be expensive at £18/m2

At that price I'd be looking into Safety flooring on ebay - like a very heavy duty lino with 'grit' embedded in it to make it non slip.

always just had bare concrete floor , and when screwfix grey floor paint.

did two coats (first coat took LOADS ) , yea might not be as hard wearing as epoxy stuff , but for the price really helps keeping it less dusty ,

i just get Air line and blow crap away / sweeping is easier as well.

might need to do fresh coat soon though , as just down a few months of welding over it ..
