I've been preping/spraying my daily all weekend. I'm made a mistake as I didn't re-prime the stopper and the basecoat didn't adhere properly in these areas and ran. It was late in the day already and it was getting too cold to rectify the base coat (As it was taking ages to dry) and clearcoat in time.

I know I need to apply the clear coat very quickly, but I'm not now able too and it could be days before I get another window of suitable weather and the time off work.

Will I be able to scotch bright the whole lot, apply another coat of base, and then lacquer in a few days or is this whole basecoat going to have to come off? I'm hoping someone's going to tell me that another coat of base coat will re-activate the prior.

Water based paint dries using air movement, which needs  the correct air tool, and would be a pain at home.:( Would be much better going 2K. Water based does give a better finish though, and thicker.

Too late now lol. Error made, lesson least. Just thrown half my garage outside, rigged up a heater and preparing for a night shift of painting

Seemed to be very glossy for a basecoat

A bodyshop would use  a air dryer to dry the paint on a panel, but need a special booth to spray a whole car. :shades: 2K is just a chemical reaction, as you probably know. As you mentioned though, 2K can be a pig to get hold of, especially in large quantities, with the industry moving towards water based. You still need a solvent based lacquer, so I don't see how It's 'environmentally friendly'. That's all I have to say about H&S. O_O

My understanding is that you can just put it on sooooo thick that it's quite easy for an amateur to polish up a good shine.

Last time I used water based I left it overnight before lacquer.

If you do a search on some of my old threads you'll find the pictures and info from when I did it.

I got some good advice from some very g painters

If you have applied basecoat, you can use grey (ultra fine) scotchbrite, don't do it too hard. Then lacquer over it and it'll be fine.

Yes u can wait till it's dry and put another coat
but it must be keyed up
Grey scotch will be fine but don't press extreamly hard and don't use a cleaner on it either
another coat of base must be applied not just scotch and straight to clear coat this is where i see lot of people go wrong
