1996 Sprite which has been a complete pain in the butt from day 1 with various problems, however, after having had a small electrical fire, I've decided to convert it over to carb. All the wiring loom has been replaced, however I can't get a spark at the plugs, meaning in theory there is no power to the coil, but power is present when I bypass the ignition, but still no spark.....any suggestions as to what the problem could be. Any wiring diagrams available. TIA

We've replaced the coil, still no spark from the lead.

Thanks CityEPete, yes it's an electronic one and yes earth and permanent positive, have tried an alternative module in case there's a fault, but still same results.

Have a look inside the dizzy cap and see if the little carbon plunger is there - one disapeared on me once :shy:

If you put a plug lead and plug straight from the coil and put it on the engine block do you get any spark when you turn it over?

Wonder if the small electrical fire has taken out the electronics on the distributor?

immobiliser?  Pages 447, 460 and 461. The white wire coming from the ignition switch should go now to the + of the coil not a brown pink which would come from the ECU. The electronic distributor probably has to have power from the same white wire for the electronics to operate.

The ecu and the immobiliser have been removed. Replacement wiring loom suitable for carb version has been fitted. All electrics are working ok, apart the hazard lights and not actually being able to start him

What colour are the wires for the coil on the replacement loom? Double check all connections are correct, clean and tight.... It is timed correctly and not 180 out?

Looking back at the first post you say it won't spark even with the ignition bypassed, is this the rover style black electronic ignition we are talking about?
