Hi All,

First problem with my mini is epic rattles and vibrations coming from all sorts of places. I've tracked one noise down to the grill not being screwed in... anywhere

Second noise comes from the engine when i floor it and i've looked at the top engine steady to find that my engine doesnt have one!

The engine is a 12H D09 Metro engine - my question is, should there be a top steady there or not? It has an ultimate steady fitted to the stat housing which is what is holding it at the moment.. just want to check that one should be there.

Al

Yes, the 'ultimate engine steady' is not intended as a replacement for the normal top engine steady.

Had to get my ultimate steady out, it made the engine sit at a slightly wrong angle. Had to fit a new servo mount and fit a new engine steady.

This has been a problem with every ultimate steady that I've fitted so I replace the solid bar on ultimate steady with 12mm threaded bar, nuts and washers.  I fit the standard top steady first and then adjust the nuts on the threaded bar to suit the gap between the ultimate brackets.

This is how I set up my engine steadies in 1977 Clubman. The one at the thermostat end is an original arm cut and threaded to go into a threaded sleeve that I made so as to adjust its length.
