I have just replaced the donuts on the front of my mini, along with top arm pins, knuckles, bushes and grease nipples.
When I removed the dampers / shocks, I noticed that they do not recoil when you compress them. There is resistance when you compress them and the resistance does change as you adjust them, but no recoil. Are they ok or do they need replacing

Also does the same apply for the rears.
By the way, the dampers are Spax adjustable ones.

Any help would be appreciated, don't won't to do a half assed job.

Yeah sounds normal they compress and remain where they are compressed too. They just act to smooth out the springyness of the donut.

They're not design to recoil, that's the job of the spring.
