I have a genuine rear subframe mount to fit, but when I offer it up and bolt it in place to see how it sits, there is a 3-4mm gap between it and the bottom of the wheel arch. The gap actually at the bottom edge of the wheel arch could be worked, but what I don't get is why the right angled tab on the subframe mount which is supposed to spot weld to the inside of the wheel arch is 3-4mm away.

Any ideas? Fold down the tab and refold it? Reposition the holes in the mount (seems a bit drastic). Take it back and say it doesn't fit. It doesn't seem right to be fettling about with one of these mounts. It's as if the holes in the mount are in the wrong place. Anyone come up against this before.

I'm pretty much 100% that the mounting holes in the boot floor have not moved, and they are in the same position on both side of the car. They are my datum. And the wheel arch strengthening brackets are still insitu.

Big thanks everyone...

Personally, Id 'make it fit' meself...

Be better to work the metal on the car to the plate, than the other way round though....

I agree with the above if the closing panel is in the right place (test fit the rear valance to double check) if that lines up well tap the inner wheel arch boot floor lip to marry up. If not you could elongate the holes in the closing panel to position it to fit the car / rear valence.

Dont forget its been sometime since your car was built and these panels were made. There will will always be a degree of fettling to carry out so tweak away.

Thanks for getting back everyone. I guess I'm just being a wishful thinking big fat baby... hoping the new mount would fit. Ho hum.

The mount fits perfectly... except the holes don't line up, so the easiest way would be to elongate the holes. Do you think it's reasonable to fill them with a bit of weld afterwards. Or forget all that and, as yous say, tease the wheel arch out to meet it.

Cheers to all for the help!

You could weld up the holes in the new panel, clamp it up to the car, and then re-drill the holes in the right place...
