I'll be popping the screen out soon to do a few repairs to the frame on my '91 Cooper, it's the rubber one and has seen (many) better days so will be replacing. There seems to be a change over in '91 to the 'wide' type of seal and I'm pretty sure that's what is currently fitted but I seem to recall a few mentions on here of issues with this type and recommendations to revert to the narrower/earlier type of seal. Was I dreaming and should I stick with the original type - or go for the earlier one.

The wider one has been accused of causing rott underneath it due to a lip that is incorporated. The pic below was taken at Minispares where they demonstrate the difference nicely.

Thanks for that, it does indeed show the difference nicely. Is it just the seal that's different or was the frame recess a different shape to accommodate the wider seal.

Frames are identical.

Cheers, I probably go for the earlier type.

Just curious. Why was it changed? Does anyone know? As always, knowing the underlying reasons for such things may be useful to someone in the future.

I heard it was done to allow a machine / robot to install the windows rather than man power.
