Hi,

I've currently got my 1994 1275 SPi engine in bits, out of my Cooper.

I've been doing some research into camshafts and I may fit a better one if funds allow.. current one is in good condition. But, what I can't seem to find out is if the SPi engine requires a special injection cam or if it can use any 1275 compatible cam? I understand the MPi used a cam sensor lobe, but the SPi doesn't have this so does it really matter..?

I'm not looking for anything spectacular, if anything I'd just want a mild road cam.

Cheers,

Cam.

From what i have learnt is that the kent cam 274 is the one that works with the SPI.

I will be fitting one to my engine soon.

Sweet, well if 2 others think only the injection cam's work then I can't be far off.

Thanks

My own ACD-RS cam works in the SPI.

The Stock A+ 1275 cam is the same as the spi cooper cam and can be used as a direct replacement.

My 1293 spi has a stage 4 head and a 274 cam, really impressed with the performance.

Mine is currently being built with the piper 270i which is injection specific.
I was advised the ecu restrictions on power of the spi means whilst other cams will work fine, the potential is limited by the fuelling restrictions so you need the power bands in a more specific place to make the most of them.

Got it. Will ensure I get an injection cam, if any

Calver recommended the Piper BP255. I had the Swiftune SW5-07 in there before but needed replacement. The Piper has a very similar profile to the SW but its better built as it has an oil alley way through the middle and into lopes. You dont get that on most other cams, especially for the price.
