I was told an 'ultimate engine steady' would benefit my car. The vast majority though aren't designed for MPIs. Do additional engine steadies exist for MPIs? Are they worth getting?

I think they're personal preference to be honest, I quite like having them fitted. Although I've seen quite a few without them fitted that haven't had problems

Link below to one that should fit MPIs

I've seen one exactly like that which is advertised as only for SPIs which is why I'm quite confused. Have they made an error or is this actually fittable to an MPI? Anyone got it fitted?

Is this one standard or not? I tried checking to see if I had one but I can't find the water pump!

a real pain these ones. you will need to order some thermostat gaskets as well. and it makes doing many things a pain as it also bolts onto the exhaust manifold to reduce some of the bending load it puts into the stat housing studs.

back in the day when these first came out there were great. as there was nothing else. but it was the most hated part I had on my car.

I do much prefer the design of the dsn ones, there is quite a price difference though.

If the OPs budget can stretch to the dsn version that's what I'd be going for

I have fitted two of the "poor design" versions to Spi and Carb Coopers. They are versions by Mini Spares and Moss, and I have never found them to be a problem to work around. I have had issues with thermostat types as it is yet another gasket to contend with, leaks etc and the cheaper ones seem to have to be adjusted to fit

Dsn one is hands down better, the older type is a poor design. Try doing anything quick with them, I'd save and get the better, more practical type.

(I've had the poor one and Dsns ones)
