Hi,

Have to change headlights on my Mini for UK MOT purposes. My Mini is EU registered LHD but as I just started process of registering it in the UK I have to change headlights. As my Mini had complete rebuilt over last couple of years I had genuine nos Lucas H4 with pilot light fitted that look quality but to my surprise nobody stocks them in RHD version. I'd like to avoid modernised clear glass cheep looking ones and prefer retro look but not really like P700 style. What should I choose now?

don't get me wrong but I'm really into original look as my Mini is not original spec at all but I do like the 80-90s look of my current Lucas ones, unfortunately they're not good enough for MOT I'm having next week. As I need them changed rather quickly I think I'll take the Wipac ones. It's only because I had Wipac spot lights in the past and I didn't like them I'm not really fond of Wipac headlight now...

Cibie do a very nice headlight for the Mini which has the built-in sidelights. You can also get Hella halogen headlight units which are what I have in my Cooper 'S'.

I'll probably use Wipacs in the 850 when I get to that stage as they are Ok for 850 performance.

The best headlamp is the Valeo (formerly Cibie) 082439:

You can pick them up for around £35 each on Ebay:

One of the guy's in our club has fitted LED headlights similar to these,

There are 2 sealed beams in each headlight, one each for dip & main beams, the light output is really excellent, but the price is very expensive, I believe he paid about £120 each !

I've even put these on my 1970 Ford F250.

I should note that in both cases I've relayed the headlamps in order to maximize the output.

Anyone given these (or similar) a go. I was looking at respraying my lights a light layer of selective yellow but I was told these may be a better job from a friend of a friend. My lights are fairly high up on the to do list so if anyone has any feedback on these that'd be great
