Hey, I've just fitted some elf door pockets in my mini, they look awesome, but the drivers side seat is too close and is flexing the door pocket when the door is shut. The passenger side is spot on and both seats are in the exact same position etc. All I can think of is the mounts on the crossmember drivers side are off compared to the passenger side?... any way to sort this out without having to drill new holes in the crossmember?

It's a bit dodgy, but I mounted the seat on the outside of the crossmember mount so the seat is more towards the centre, but that's still not enough.

Cheers

How have you done that? The pocket is part of the door.

I mean the plastic door pockets, not the early ones that are part of the door.

These are like mine:

Just once the door is shut, the drivers seat is pushing against the pocket too much.

Also the seats I have are the same as in that photo too so you would have thought there was plenty of room.

Probably need to drill some new mounting holes on the crossmember then

the holes in the cross member are captive nuts so can't really do that, I would make some offset seat mounts. I'm going to on mine(not because of the same problem though just to get the steering wheel and pedals a bit more central to the seat.) I can do a CAD (cardboard aided design) of how I'm going to do it. and you'll be able to move the seat further back if you like.

Oh yeah I forgot about the captive nuts. Ok sounds good Alex. First of all though, my mate has let me take the seat extenders out of his mini to try so will see if they help at all. May be able to just about clear the pocket by moving the seat back as they have a bit more room towards the rear. I think the seat will still need bringing more towards the centre of the car though. Will just have to see.

Cheers

That's a bit odd. Although before you go messing around with brackets and drilling new holes etc. The 2 seat brackets bolted to the cross member do have slotted holes. So if you loosened off the 4, 7/16" bolts you might be able to slide the brackets over just enough for the seat to clear.

Something I've just remembered. Normally on the standard seats the rear hoops tend to interfere with the tunnel when they are moved too far towards the centre. So might be worth measuring the frame/rear hoops of each seat to see if that's causing the problem.

Tried the extenders but they didn't help, so I elongated the current holes on the crossmember brackets and it's a lot better now. Drivers side still touches, but doesn't push the pocket in now so I'm happy.
