Looking for suggestions on the best place to get my crankshaft re ground or an exchange.

Its a 1275 A+ engine.

I live in East Ayrshire, Scotland, was thinking of one from minisport.

Any recommendations on where to take mine?

and is it worth the extra for the nitrocarburising?

Cheers,

Scott

Google or otherwise to check for engine reconditioners in your local area. There will be some in or near Glasgow at least. You do not need a Mini specialist fr a regrind and new set of shells and thrusts to match. No need to send it far. A normal reconditioner will have the knowledge, experience and equipment, and possibly be cheaper. You do of course need a Mini specialist for some things.

Nitrocarburising is good if your engine is going to be highly tuned or needs to have a long life, otherwise why spend money? But the S was nitrided, which conferred similar benefits. Others may have a variety of opinions.

As for Mini sport, they are not what they once were...

JEM Engines in Polmont. Tel 01324 633266, Peter is best person to speak with and familiar with classic engines.

George Brown & Sons in Leith. Tel 0131 554 5436. Tom is best contact, also familiar with classic engines

If the crank is currently on std size journals then would not bother with any additional treatment, it should have fillet rolled journals on the bigends.
