Ok guys my morris minor is coming along (but this forum is more active!), I'm coating everything in red oxide as I go keyed in a bit, what can I paint the underside with on top of that when it's all done, stone chip, shutz, smoothrite, chassis black????

Thanks folks.

I am going for tintable raptor on my mk2, but stonechip ovecoated with topcoat is fine, I have heard good reports on the water based stonechip, also don't forget to seam seal everywhere

I use this at work and it's very good

Can be overpainted and gives a very nice finish

Thanks as ever, yes I've got seam sealer on it's way, I'm going to repair the whole rear end inside and out then red oxide as I go, scrape the underside as far as I can reach from this end, rust treat and red oxide that, stone chip then paint over the top then, can I smoothrite over stone chip as the finish? They do a special order "liberty green" which looks close enough to the 50's Sage green for inside the boot and underneath?

That looks ideal, I will be using cans rather than a gun too which they do.

Not too bad for a beginner, as long as it's solid I'll be happy, it's never going to be in a concours show!

I have had good results with upol gravitex. Can get a good result sprayed and in odd hard to reach areas brush on works well. Over paints nicely too.

I will say that it is so much easier with a shultz gun and compressor though and cost effective if your going to use rattlers the same gear is very good for waxing later too so I would give I some serious consideration.

Do you have to clean it out somehow after use? It would make sense to use my airline I suppose.

Just blow some white spirit though is all I did as it's all I had at the time worked fine.

When you do this not only suck through some white spirit but then place your finger over the nozzle after and this will then back blow through the siphon tube.

You will get a much better finish using a proper schultz spray gun plus you if you want to add a little white spirit to thin it down. The biggest tip though is to thoroughly shake the tin after you have immersed it in hot water for ten minutes.

Look at that! If it ends up a 10th as neat I'll be happy.

I'll grab a shultz gun then, you lot have convinced me.

You can then use the gun for waxing afterwards so defiantly a sound investment. I got the cheapest I could find that came with an extension hose and it works great.
