So after a long rebuild I've tried to start one of my cars today and have come across a problem

Basically when you switch the ignition on the oil light comes on but there's no ignition light, Also when you then go to turn the key to start it there's no power to turn the starter motor everything thing else works fine

It's had a brand new minispares wiring loom, starter solenoid, starter motor and alternator

When the ignition is bypassed the engine turns freely so it's not the starter and the battery is band new

Anyone have any ideas as what I could try?

Thanks!!

Wiring to the ignition switch is broken/wrong or could be the switch itself. I had this exact issue and it was the wiring to the actual key section at fault/poor contact.

I'll check that out thanks

Would be typical for it to be the one part I've not changed!

So after having a play around with this tonight I noticed there wasn't a bulb or bulb holder in the ignition light hole (lost in storage I presume) so once i put one in the ignition light lit up but still not turning the car over when turning the key?

So I'm still one bulb holder short on the clocks (twin clock clubman type) but surely this wouldn't stop it from starting would it?

I've also check the wires from the lock itself and they seem fine, I'm hopefully going to rig up a test light and test it just to be 100% sure

Just a little stumped at the moment

Also anyone know if you can still buy the bulb holder I need?

Thanks!

Assuming it's the black plastic ones that take a wedge bulb - Somerfords, Rimmer Bros, Moss and Minispares don't stock them. I found one person who sells them on eBay:

A missing bulb won't stop it turning over.

You still have some sort of wiring issue. It isn't activating the solenoid. But if you can get the starter to spin but hot-wiring, then the problem is the ignition switch or the wring from that to the solenoid.

Yeah I thought that'd be the case hopefully I'll get time to have a look at it this weekend and I'll update on my findings

that would have been where I would have started.

but I would guess the trigger wire is not being activated. (or not connected).
