The 970 'S' is the rarest of all Minis. That one looks good in the photos, although I am not sure the grey trim is correct as it doesn't look to have the 'grey-gold brocade' which it should have. But Newton Commercial could put that right for not a lot of money.
Personally I have never liked the 970 - all revs and not much go. A 998 Cooper could be made quicker than a standard 970 with very little effort, but in highly tuned race form it was almost unbeatable up to 1000 cc, unless there was a 998 Imp around in similar state of tune. I had a 970 'S' engine bored out to 999 cc in a 998 Cooper rally car with 85 bhp at around 7000 rpm, but it always seemed like hard work compared to my 1275 'S' if trying to go really fast on a special stage.
The 970 was really only for competition in the 'up to 1000 cc class'.
