Hello everyone,

Not sure this is the correct place to post, is there much difference between mig wire from places like toolstation and screwfix or is it better from a more "industrial" outlet?

There isn't a vast price difference it's more convenient and easier to grab a reel when out at work with Artic!!!! (Like to think I got something extra out of working hours!!)

Over the years I've found most of the wire is similar.

My last big reel from screwfix was great.

I tend to buy the big reels and then wind it onto smaller ones, it works out much cheaper that way, but you need something to use to wind it with ... I use my lathe.

I will second that. It probably comes from the same factory anyway. I bought some in Aldi once. For Mini bodyshells we would only use mild steel MIG wire which is fairly non-critical. For welding various other things which are highly stressed, stainless or special in any way, the choice of wire, and gas, becomes much more difficult and you have to go to a specialist supplier. That will not apply to 99.999% of Mini owners.
