I am in the process of installing the felt/rubber window seals and rubber door seals in my Mk 3 (wind-up windows).  Are these installed dry or is adhesive required?

The bottom part of the seal was glued in when they can from the factory new .. but just like Nick I've never glued them in when replacing them.

Watch out for the bit that's cut away ..it's easy to break it off as you try and install them ...space is a bit limited.

I noticed that the door seal has a gap.  Can someone tell me what it's purpose is, and where in the door jamb it should be located?

If I remember rightly, it should line up with the door check strap .

Upon further inspection,  I've noted that the seal has two gaps, not just one.  Does anyone know how these should be oriented in the door jamb?

They go at the bottom of the door, if you have a later car you'll see two indentations on the door step panel, and they line up with them. It's so any water can run out

My car is a '74.  I'll install per your advice.  Thanks.
