I have started to prep for paint and keep pondering on what to do about the panel joint on my  66 elf (external hinge) where the the rear corner of the door step meets the rear quarter panel at the bottom of the B post. Its an external overlap joint at 45 degrees that's about 40mm long.

Its not rotten but rust has crept in between the two panels and started to expand the joint. Whilst its passable i know its there and it will bug me once painted.

The obvious answer is to cut it out and replace with new steel. It just seems a lot of work for such a minor issue!

Anyone got any ideas or opinions before i put the grinder to it?

You don't have any choice because the rust will not stop. If you paint it you will just be wasting your time. Chop it out, repair properly, then paint and enjoy for a long time.

Chop it out but also go a bit further up with it as it will have tracked. Talking from experience here.
