Hi,

Just doing my new bolts up after engine rebuild and number 1 as per Haynes manual has just sheared off clean in the block. Not even got to 1st stage torque! Looks like some sub standard crap.

Anyway, I'll deal with that later. For the time being how do I get the sheared piece out? Help please!

Yeah the stud, sorry. It's stripped, just a clean break, nothing to grab hold of.

It sounds like your only solution is a screw removal kit. Essentially you drill a hole and drive a left hand screw into what is left of the stud. As the left hand screw tightens the stud is unscrewed. Good luck.

Do you have a dremmel?
You might be able to cut a thin slot in it and use a flat screwdriver to take it out.

I've tried the screw removal kit, it doesn't seem to touch it but I assume that's because they'll be ht bolts?

To be honest unless you have a decent extractor set you could end up compounding the issue. Is the stud flush with the head or proud?? if its proud then weld another bolt to the stub and then remove.

Protect the block face and get the welder out. Building up the weld so you can then grip it to undo what's left of the stud. If the threads were cleaned before the new studs when in then the remains won't be too hard to unscrew.

Good luck

I thought about that but wasn't certain it would work. I've started drilling but can tell it's going to be a slow and steady type of job. Oh well, if in doubt I'll go back to the welding route.

you could get some left hand twist drills and try those, never used any myself but heard they do the job.

Best of luck!

Was it a head stud or a rocker pedestal one?
