Hi All

 

I have a Mini Cooper 02, and a few days back the heater stopped blowing hot air - the fan blows air fine, but it's not heated.  Just when the cold snap arrived too so great timing 

 

I browsed online, and saw some suggestions to check fuses and coolant level.  Fuse was fine, but the coolant was empty.  I added in the coolant last night, but the problem remains today.

 

From what I've seen online, it could now be an airlock, or other's suggest I service the heater myself as it';s not a big job when you know how.  But I don;t!  Could anyone offer any suggestions on 

 

a) How to determine if I have an airlock in the coolant flow and/or

b) Suggest anything I can try to get the heat working again (bar waiting on some seasonal weather)

Check that there aren't any bleed valves in the heater hoses high in the engine bay. Newer cars often have these. you can open them with a screwdriver and if coolant comes out, it isn't an airlock there.

 

If you have drained the coolant it is possible it is an airlock. Try starting the car and allowing it to warm up with the coolant cap off the car and see if you can see any bubbles pushing back out of the header tank.
