Hello,

Can someone explain how can i convert the mk3 ignition to a mk1 dash ignition?

I know that i need a push button to start but my problem it's the mk3 ignition have 4 wires and the mk1 are only 3...

If someone knows how to do that please give me a tip.

Thank you

Only early Mk1's had a floor start push button (up to approx Sep 1964)......the later Mk1's had a combined ignition/key start on the dash. So did the Mk2 and early Mk3......the column ign/starter with steering lock came in on Mk3's in late 1970/ early 71.

The dash mounted combined ignition and starter switch is not the same as the ignition switch used on early floor starter cars.

It may be a construction and use thing for your car to have the steering lock, I certainly can't see your insurers being happy about it being removed.

The barrel is just a 3 position switch with a common supply, if you didn't use the starter terminal (red/white) the accessory and ignition terminals will still work normally. The barrel does also provide the detents to keep the steering lock from locking. Expect to need a relay if you add a push start switch.
