Oil Leak Back Of The Engine

hi got a 1977 1000 , i know theres an oil leak but i cant work out where, back of the engine underneath the exhaust manifold seems to looks soaked  though but rocker cover gasket looks alright

 

any ideas? thanks

You might have two removable tappet covers behind that manifold .. they have gaskets too!

I had a similar leak, turned out to be the head gasket, at the corner, dripped down the back of the engine block.

Check out the underneath of the mechanical fuel pump, there's a little hole there that was leaking on mine.

Tip: Give it a really good de-greasing first, then you'll have a better chance of finding it.

 

Also, don't be too quick to think it's something low down on the engine, it could be leaking from higher up and running down,

Or even leaking at the front and running round a ledge like the slight protrusion of the head gasket. I have seen that once and it had me fooled for a while.
