HI All,

I'm in need of replacing my MPI's ECU and I have seen a number of different options out there but would like to know what peoples opinion of them are. I have been looking at the Emerald K6 but have been told about MegaSquirt as well as Haltech. Ideally I need something with a basic programme pre-installed but I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.

Cheers

I'm also interested to find out people's thoughts on this topic

But I do know that the specialist components option is popular as it allows you to refine the mapping of the ECU

I think it depends a lot on what you are expecting from a system change.

I do not believe any of them are as simple as an ECU swap.

Specialist Components comes the closest, but it is a system change with a new throttle body.

Theoretically you should be able to manage "refine the mapping of the ECU," but this requires a good understanding of the SXTune software that is used by SC in the kits.

Being located in the US has not helped with support issues, although my installation is not a standard application.

Just saw this on Ebay UK, not sure if the price is any different than directly from them.

Interesting as the pictures show the older machined throttle body, instead of the cast throttle body.

This is their eBay shop and I think you'll find the price is the same.

Thanks for all the reply's, I need an ECU to work together with all the other mods that have been done to the engine. The standard part now is the restricting element. It would seem that the SC part is the preferred option, what benefits have you seen with this type?

Cheers

Smoother running, mappable, more power, better emissions!

What size SC kit would you go for on a standard 1275 MPI, the 45 or the 50mm throttel body?

On a standard engine I'd use the 45mm. It's what I've got on my carb conversion and when I bought the kit some years ago the guys at specialist components said the 50mm was for race application. My old 1310 engine was making 87bhp and 90lb/f.

45mm, you won't need 50mm unless you're going for mega power with supporting mods.
