I'm about to replace the floor and inner sills in 4 sections and both outer sills. Would I be able to put the mini on its side (resting on several large cushions) and replace the floor and inner sills in 4 stages without the shell being bent? And obviously having the outer sill off while I weld in the floor sections each side.

Thanks

Brace the shell with multiple lengths of box section or similar. Balancing shells whilst welding them isn't a good idea. You are likely to distort the shell. I've seen some people balance two wheels high up on oil drums and cut sills and floors out - beside the obvious danger this is shockingly poor practice and you end up with a pig of a car!

If I used old tyres instead, and replaced the floor in 4 separate sections. Would that be fine?

To be honest its not the safest method but needs must.

Now as an aside and having done what you are about to do seriously consider not replacing four individual floor sections. Buy two half floors instead. It might seem like more work but in the long run its a better job.

There is a bit more to do but i wish i had done this on my lads car. Now its the only way apart from replacing the complete floor if i need to go that route.

Brace the shell. It's not worth the risk!

+1 on this. You need 5 pieces of 20mm box.

Two sections, from above the companion bin on the B pillar and across to the A pillar. Do this on the inside.

Then at each end go across the width of the car to tie it all together. Now i then add another section directly over the floor crossmember and add to drop downs to the crossmember for a height reference.

Thanks for the replies. Annoyingly I have already got the 4 sections from m machine. Surely having the four floor sections instead of having two half floors will just mean some extra welding joining them together and lining them up? Or am I missing something else obvious?

And with regards to bracing, I've welded some steel tubing between the B pillars and door gaps. Is any more needed if it's going to be put on its side?

Thanks

Thanks Sonikk for that. I'll weld in that bracing tomorrow. That's really helpful.

The quarter floors will more than likely be  magnum panel sold by M Machine. The rear panels, have they got a shaped cutout where they wrap around the companion bin??

When ordering them I was told they are m machines own panels. The rear panels don't have the cutout for the companion bins. I've attached some photos of the panels.

Thanks

Fair shout defo not Magnum and they will do the job. You do know you will need to take out the companion bin to get them to fit correctly. Use them though.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the companion bins are out already as I've had to replace the rear inner wheel arches. Hopefully I shouldn't have too many problems when putting the new floor sections in.
