Had a little bit of time in the garage tonight. Bit of tidying then some work on the GT. Took the rear screen out and put that in the loft for safety. Removed the front seats from the Mini to get a decent look at the floor.

As suspected, a total new floor required. The amount of patches carried out previous on the floor sections, cross member, butchering to get aftermarket seats in and repairs to the boot floor mean that the floor, boot floor and rear inner arches need replacing.

I’ll let the images speak for themselves ?

Seats that were removed and will be for sale soon as not suitable.

I love that colour on a GT. Will you be keeping it the same?

Well managed another hour in the garage tonight. This Mini is the gift that just keeps on giving!
Removed the rear seats and the bodging fairy has been busy again!

Rear arch has had some bodging
OBS5ltc.jpg

Some horrible hacking of the parcel shelf just to fit some speakers

One bit of good news is the boot is in decent condition and the rear bumper is too.

Any pointers as to where to start first in terms of replacing panels? I was thinking toe board and front inner wings first, then floor/sills?

Thanks

Yes I intend to keep it denim blue, if and when I ever get to that stage!

Going to be my biggest and most daunting project to date! Wish I’d known it was this bad before.

I am sure you will do fine on this, just take your time start somewhere and work your way round the car.. Loads of help can be had off here to.

The guy who im guessing part owns green and whites lives two mins away from me. The car looks so much better without the arches on, the hack job on the parcel shelf is shocking!

Managed another hour in the garage tonight. The strip down and bagging/labelling of items continues.

This evening was front bumper off, grill and light surrounds plus side light/indicator units out. Front wings have seen more bodging, at least the PO has been consistent.

Cylinder head number I think means it is a 1275/1300 head, but unsure. No engine number visible, should there be a plate there?
Anyway, more photos

I’m aiming to chip away and do an hour a night, depending on how busy work is. Prep and marking for classes gets in the way.

The fella that lives near the garden centre? The only other lad I’ve met there has a red 944 and have seen it near town but I’ve only been to G&W twice.

Once this resto gets into full swing I’ll need my wages paying direct to them I think!

Managed another hour in the garage tonight.
Upper and lower dash out. Heater out and loom fed through to the engine bay.

A few obvious issues include areas around the fresh air vents are knackered and the lower dash rail not attached to the near side inner wing. Also previous repairs to the driver footwell floor/inner wing and toe board possibly mean a new toe board, but I’ll need advice on that.

Here you go.

Near side area. Does this need a full inner wing replacement?

Off side area, same question.

I’ll need to start ordering some panels soon. Are M Machine decent enough or go Heritage? I see on Mini Spares there’s money off some heritage panels at the moment.

Thanks

Minispares did an offer a while back of 20% off heritage panels, saved enough to pay for my bonnet. I already had a bonnet but I thought what the he'll haha

Sounds good Jimmy. Every little helps, I’ve not got an endless pot to plough into this. Mind you the wife will only know half of it!

Tonight’s instalment. Managed another hour in the garage before it got too late and I started miffing the neighbours, plus a can of Old Speckled Hen was calling ?.

Got the other two horrible arches off and had a look at where the PO had deseamed the front wing and filled the scuttle join.

I wish I’d have been his bodge supplier!! Would be retired by now!

Quick look in the near side companion bin revealed this. Dumb question as first Mini, would that be the heal board at the rear of the bin?

The GT came with a brand new set of these with Sime tyres, unused. I will probably sell them as I think I prefer the Wellers.

Anyway there’s my Friday night instalment.
Tomorrow’s job is fuel tank out, nearside rear light out and then I’m thinking take a front wing off and have a look to see what delights are there!
