I'm thinking of welding up the holes that aren't needed in the upper front bulkhead rather than putting in the rubber bungs, I'm not exactly sure which holes I need and which I don't, I clearly didn't take quite enough photo's when I dismantled the car, I can clearly see a couple that are bunged and some that are used but I'm not sure about the rest.

I wonder if anybody can help me identify which ones I can safely weld up that I won't subsequently have to open back up after painting??

I've marked in Green the ones I think I need to keep and red the ones I think I can close, the rest I'm not sure about....

I think the square holes also had plastic nut inserts in them that I guess I could if I felt like it close up and replace with a rivnut?

Hi alchall
I would at least keep the square hole furthest rightbottom below the right red ring.
This the mounting hole for the lower windscreen wiper motor bracket.
The square hole just above the two reds on the right is for the upper windscreen motor mounting bracket.
Finally unless you have a centre speedo you will also need to keep the £2 coin size hole between the 2 green ones just to the right of the clutch master cylinder mounting hole, this hole is for the speedo drive cable.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks very much, that does help yes, I think I can ditch the two round holes either side of the square hole which is the top of the wiper motor bracket looking again at my old photo's.

I also need to remember to re-instate the small holes to screw the fuse box onto the bulkhead to the left of the rotodip hole....

Number 1 is the heater pipe holes
Number 2 are the 4 holes for the blanking plate that covers the large hole
Number 3 is the boot hole for the servo bracket

Just a thought. Are you leaving the "spare" wiper holes (for LHD) on the scuttle, to fit the standard black rubber plugs, or welding them up? At least some early Minis did not  have the extra holes, so presumably they drilled the shell after assembly for LHD or RHD. I will need to ask myself the same question one day.

There will be opposing opinions about this. Technically it is a no-brainer, aesthetically it looks better, but as for originality.....

If course you can get stainless or chrome blanking plugs to confuse the issue.

Whatever you decide, now is the time to do it, before paint.

That's a bit of a conundrum, I did consider closing the spare holes up when I installed the new scuttle, I've been back and forward in my mind, while I'm not looking for originality for some reason I'm minded to keep them, but as you say, the time to decide is now :-)
