My Old Man got one of the door handles to fix the Ford Pop. Halfords also supplied a rear hub puller for it around that time. If you think that Mini flywheels are tight, you haven't removed a pop one piece hub and brake drum!

Mr father had one of the sump heaters for his Morris Oxford. Not everyone had a garage with their house and our garage was in a block of 8 garages and nearly everyone had one of the heaters. When you think back parking a car over a paraffin heater in the early 60's was a risky business because at some point they used to leak every fluid that was put into them, it was surprising the whole garage block never burnt down.

As an aside I can remember going to the local garage with a can and a shilling to put in the paraffin machine. 1963 was a particularly bad winter in North Yorkshire, I can remember walking to school and the snow drifts were as high as the first floor on many houses, all the toilets were frozen at school but the school stayed open, we just used buckets.

Halfords Catalogue 1965

An affectionate look back in link below at what you could have been considering for Christmas 1965...

"Since the dawn of automotive time, man has been dreaming of car-related gifts to open under the Christmas tree. That's right folks, Dads in 1965 didn't have to put up with getting confusing socks, baffling smart phones, or millenials handing over inferior whisky. Nope, they got to ask Father Christmas for the things that really mattered in life: ashtrays, a rev counter (fancy), noise insulation and dash panel covers. Yep, Dad might not have been able to afford that 1600E Cortina, but he wasn't going to let that stop him. So grab a cuppa, put your feet up, and remember a happier time for gifting (oh, and a time when Halfords sold more than bikes and stereos)..."
