I appreciate this is a public forum, I don't intent on this thread being more than "ideas generation".

I want to wire a switch to prevent my mini from starting. But I specifically want to pick the safest circuit to disrupt, i.e. not something which is likely to melt a normal rocker switch.

I've got a mid 90's carb'd mini with Rover electronic ignition. I feel that module is the best place to start but likely to be a bit obvious.

I used to have an actual immobiliser wired into the white and pink wire, but one day I managed to find out that it didn't even work!

Battery isolator in the boot and something wired for the ignition switch so that starter turns but ignition is off so no spark. Just make sure wire is of the correct gauge and switch is rated for a reasonable amount of amps. And it is hidden and as tidy as possible.

Could also do a toggle switch to the starter relay too hidden away.( doesn't stop you bumping it though)

Fuel cut off in the boot is handy too. Car may start but it won't get far ( this is my next one)

Ignition coil cut out is the simplest and most DIY solution. Car will turn over, but will not fire...

Yeah I've got a battery isolater that you just unscrew to isolate and screw back in when you want to connect the battery up again, just make sure you don't lose it like I've done in the past!

you can earth the coil with a set of three switches.
Unless the switches are in the correct sequence then it will never start.
Im looking at Fingerprint Activated Recognition Technologie, or FART for short.
Its not actually called FART but i prefer that, as i cant remember the actual name as i write this.
Cost is around the £300 mark and requires your own fingerprint to make the ignition live.
Has a service/valet mode and can store up to 5 seperate fingerprints.

I used to just lift the gaiter and unhook the gear lever and stick it in the boot, after a few times you could do it one handed.

My Mrs mini has a hidden switch, if it's not thrown every time you try to start the engine it sets off a horn in the car.
No idea how to wire it in as I'm colour blind

another easy one is just to remove the rotor arm, then it cant even be hotwired

Wire the horn to the brake light and put it on a switch to immobilise it. Doesn't stop the car from being started, but you'll hear it brake 😆

Thats really funny.
Get one of the old 7 tone sirens from the 80's that kids use to have on their cycles and then connect to brake switch.
When you brake you'll get a novelty siren, just change it when you fancy a different sound.
You could hide and connect a 150 db siren in the roof lining, then when someone presses the brake pedal they get blasted ear drums.
