Morning all just seen this (Click link below) in Lidl, now I've had a few bits and pieces of them over the last year or two which seem to be half decent and good value for money but would like anyone's thoughts on this mainly because its a vital piece of PPE viewing window is virtually same size as the R-Tech mask I had in mind which is almost three times the price. Not a cheap skate but again seems decent spec with a 3 year warranty. What would be the shortfalls of a cheaper priced mask such as this one?

Well I purchased a cheap solar mask off eBay probably 10 years or more ago now, it's been used and abused and still works fine, my opinion is unless you are using it a lot and can warrant spending upwards of £250 on one then most of the rest are very similar. Only issue with unknown ones is finding the spare lenses, on mine I have found parweld lenses cut down slightly are fine.

Thanks Daz, never thought of the spare parts availability issue.

I have one of the cheap ebay ones too and it looks exactly like the one Lidl are offering - only issue is that sometimes the shades are too dark - but it might be that my eyesight is not what it used to be.

The spare lens issue can be solved, just take the lens cover to a glazier and get them to cut some glass to that size, they will have loads of offcuts and it should cost pence - or if you have a sheet of glass laying about cut it yourself.   My original hand held mask was given to me when I was a kid, over the years (40 plus) it's had numerous new lens protectors cut from just normal sheets of glass we had in the workshop.

Go for it the one I have looks like a rebadge of that too. Can't fault it really adjusts well and have never been flashed by it.

at that price you can go wrong

it goes to level 13 darkening - so ok on heavier welds

I've been welding for over 20 years , had all sorts of masks , once they get damp / dropped a few times they are all the same

£29 is cheap as chips - also sounds like it has spark mode for grinding - which is useful

as above check for plastic screen covers - use both sides of the filter lenses or they will get chipped - do not use glass with this mask

plastic lenses can be cut down
