Not content with the available caps I made this for my car. Made from 6061 T651 aluminum, the cross piece is 6/4 Ti with SS cap screws. The roundel is inset with a vinyl insert.

Minis are easy enough targets for fuel theft, let alone one with a non locking fuel cap, as nice as it is.

Minis are easy enough targets for fuel theft, let alone one with a non locking fuel cap, as nice as it is.

Minis are easy enough targets for fuel theft, let alone one with a non locking fuel cap, as nice as it is.

It's a summer car in the US, pretty much never out of my sight. Plus gas here is cheap, a US gallon of 93 octane is less than 2.30 GBP

I'd say that cap is worth more than a full tank.

Perspective:

 

I've had my mini 5 years now, and have a non-locking cap. Never once thought about fuel theft!

 

All quiet here, in Flanders Fields.

...and a Mini tank doesn't hold enough fuel to get your average US SUV off your drive  :P

 

 

If some toerag wants to knick your fuel a locking cap won't stop them, but I would be worried about casual idiots taking the cap just because they can, or dropping crap in the tank - general point, the OP knows better for himself.
