I don't like the square fog light beneath the bumper, looks like the late 70s afterthought that it is!

I was thinking of getting a Landrover Defender rear fog light, like this:

http://www.ebay.co.u...RQpzEz_BBASusoA

And then fitting a chrome surround for a more classic look like this:

http://www.ebay.co.u...p-/170345882437

And then mounting this on the boot lid.

Alternatively perhaps a Defender rear light unit adapted to be a fog light:

http://www.ebay.co.u...zgAAOSwMgdXyAJ6

But I'm not sure of the legality of that. And whilst we are on the subject of the law, does it matter which side it goes on?

What do we think of these ideas, or are there any better ideas or suggestions?

Cheers,

Bern.

If you have Mk3 lights you can put it in the lower most reflector, I use an LED blub and it works great.

Do you mean turn the offside reversing light into the rear fog light?

That would make the back end cleaner looking.

Brilliant, thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to make something a bit like Alex-95's.

Cheers,

Bern.

Yes, you can drill the lower reflector out and put a 12V LED inside - you need a hole cutter and a 12V LED cluster bulb.

I wish I had done this on my two other rebuilds, with those I recessed the fog light into the rear valance, to be honest it looks OK but not as clean as hiding it in the cluster.

I can take some picture if you need them.

Modifying MK 3 lights is an extremely neat solution if you can satisfy the legal requirements.

You will need the legally required distance of 100mm between the edge of the ILLUMINATED AREA of the stop lights and that of the fog light. Be aware of light bleeding through where you don't want it. You need to keep some reflective area too. The Motor Vehicle Lighting Regulations are available on line somewhere, or the IVA tester's manual will help.

A completely clear lens, which is available, and the correct colour of LEDs for each lamp may be helpful if the standard lens is not suitable. You may need to add internal partitions to keep the light from the fog lamp not bleeding into the brake lamp area and vice versa. I used adhesive aluminium tape for that once, but have forgotten which car it was.

If you are successful, please post some pictures. It seems that it has potential promise. I hate the ugly, tacked on reversing and fog lights too.

So on this light it's from the edge of the top red section to the edge of the bottom red reflector?

(basically the size of the reversing section)

Is that not less than 100mm ???

Cheers ukcooper :)

If people want a more subtle fog light, we also make them so they can be tucked away and mounted on the rear subframe too.

Thanks,

Ian

How can this be possible on Mk3 lights??

From the brake lights to the reflector is barely 50mm, sure this is not legal?

I to didn't like the hanging down of the square fog light so fitted a mk2 Ford Fiesta rear fog lamp. Their mounted on a angle and a slight mod fits it nicely on the curve of the minis rear valance.
