Hi there,

I have a 1991 Rover Mini Mayfair (automatic). I'm looking at putting in an electronic ignition system, can anyone suggest any that are particularly good, or any to avoid?

Thank you very much.

I strongly advice against buying a dizzy.
The original dizzy will have the right advance curve for the engine, the chances of the 65dm4 having the right curve are very slim.

Your car will probably have a Lucas 59D ATM. You can get electronic conversion kits from simonbbc (Powerspark). They keep the original dizzy, and won't alter the advance curve .

Be cautious with new dizzies sold by accuspark, Powerspark and the likes. They most of the time don't have the right curve either. My own dizzy came with a whopping 38° of inbuilt advance.

And I cross the m20 with my eyes closed without problems.
With all respect "65dm4" means nothing without knowing wich one you're exactly using.

Did you click the link? There are a gazillion different 65dm4 dizzies around, all with different curves.

65dm4 starts from page 16, a lot of blanks to fill in too.

Never assume any dizzy has the correct curve!

If your current distributor is in good condition fit a electronic ignition kit as mentioned above, less that £30 and there is a post in the FAQs Electrical Section on a step by step fitment and the correct way to wire it.

In this day and age it is worth thinking about fully mapped ignition. Then you can have any curve that your engine needs.

I have an H+H ignition solutions distributor on my 1098 pickup which works fine and an MTK 007 magnetronic unit on my 998 Racing Green The latter died recently after 100000 miles and I am not complaining. I have replaced with another. I would recommend both.
