Good progress.

I purchased a late registered ‘96 P plate Sidewalk in Kingfisher Blue from South Shields last year.

How was the car with being on the north east coast?
It came from the Simonside area, between Jarrow & South Shields. Previous owner had a bit of work done on it and parked it up for 6-7 years. Sidewalk is a useable daily/weekend car. It needed a bit of work to get it back on the road. It was at the Ryhope show in April.

Did you attend the NEMC show last week?

That's not too bad then, least it's usual. No I wasn't, I'm not on FB so don't know any of the groups or meets. I do go to the rhyope show, I missed the season opener but will be go to the one next month

Rossul.burn - My Sidewalk is what I call a useable Mini, something you can take to the shops, drive in the rain and snow and not worry about too much. Don’t do FB. Just keep a look out online for shows. Looking at your previous photos you went to the Ryhope show where we had to park outside so we parked three Minis on the path and created our own display!

Jgguiness - Nice pics. Parked up with my friends who own the 1330 Sprite (Longtimenomini on this forum), Mini 40 and JCW Flame.

Going slightly off topic for Rossul.Burn’s project thread.

Good to see another Sidewalk ??

I think you made the right choice to get on with the repairs instead of waiting for another year or so. The sills look really bad!

And about a small garage.... It's a small car so it's possible, I've got about the same size I guess ;) also when I restored mine it was in an old shed which also was quite narrow.

I had my car up that year but I got there late so I was parked in Cherry Knowle carpark, hidden between two huge american RVs.

Im hoping in a few years time people will be able to see it at the shows

The sills and the floor are a mess, it wouldn't have passed an MOT so it would have only needed some work doing to it either way so once we were in our new house I decided to just strip it down.

I must say that is a gorgeous colour by the way. The garage is around 5m x 2.8m at its widest point. I have it pushed against one side and I have more than enough space to work but if it was in the middle it would be a bit tight. I have got parts in the loft, spare room and shed which helps!

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with it (colour is Toyota 8v8, "Liquid Blue").

My garage is about 5.75m by 2.75m so also quite small. But if you got a spare room and shed, then it will be much easier! good luck with the project :)

Any special plans or just restoring to original spec?

Yeah it's a nice colour. Thanks!

My plans are to keep it mostly original. I have a set of exactons so I will need the smaller discs and I have a rc40 but that will be the only things that dont look original, hopefully anyway.

Only time will tell

Basically nothing has happened with the car since last time I posted. Ive rebuild the gear linkage, got myself a zinc plating kit and just doing little bits and pieces. The problem is I am itching to get the car done.

I have a realistic idea that to get the car how I want is going to cost around £14k, all the panels, tools, engine rebuild etc etc but that is going to take me a few year to get that sorted.

So now I'm thinking do I cut my losses and get a new mini!

I have a two options which both include buying a new mini for around £7k these are:

1) Sell the sidewalk as a project

2) scrap the shell, keep the vin etc and store everything away and maybe get a heritage shell in the future (this would give me lots of spare parts)

Ideally I would love to get a mint condition Sidewalk but that is really limiting my choices. I feel like im throwing in the towel but I just want to be able to drive it now

well the decision has been made...

Im going to get rid of the shell and get a heritage shell but not straight away. The plan is to get a really good condition mini and enjoy it straight away, then after a few year I will get the new shell and sort out the sidewalk.

So if anyone wants a rusty SPI shell and some alloys they are up for sale!!

I'm going to be keeping everything else as I will be getting another SPI and least I will have a loft full of spares!!
