Hi I was thinking about small things that could make my mini a bit more interesting for the summer and would quite like to get some rally style door numbers, however I want to get magnetic ones so they can easily be removed and won't damage the paint.

Does anyone know where I could buy square magnetic door numbers?

Or does any know the dimensions for the square door numbers so i can make some myself?

And possibly the font commonly used?

Thanks in advance

Jack

Numbers are really for competition and should not be used on the road. In fact, if you hold a competition licence you can use it if you carry competition numbers on the public road unless actually competing in an MSA or FIA rally.

Details of required sizes are in the MSA 'Blue Book' of regulations.

To use them other than for proper competition is a bit 'boy racer-ish'.

Back in the 60's and 70's the police would give you a pull and make you take them off.....................Ex Boy racer but I'm better now...............Maybe..

Are they meant to say "Look at me, I'm a rally driver"?

If a car is a genuine competition car it may well have blank white squares on the doors, but it will not have numbers unless it is actually on a rally. Of course, it will then also have full rally equipment like a sump guard, roll cage, safety equipment, slightly raised suspension and a fairly quiet exhaust, etc.

Otherwise, it is simply 'boy racer'.

I always thought it was illegal until I noted VW had put no. 53 on some modern Beetles, was it a Herbie special ?

Back in the day, if we were on route to compete in an event, we used black tape as a cross across the number to indicate that we were not actually on an event. It was only the boy racers who used numbers on normal road cars.

Yes, I have used black tape across the numbers to show I was not actually on an event, but now I use a trailer to the start and home from the finish.

I must say I do always laugh at the 'make believe' rally drivers when I see cars with door numbers but with no other specialist parts fitted. Can't see the point really. Why pretend you are something you are not. If you want to be a rally driver, buy a car, prepare it and enter some events.

To actually answer the original posters question... Take a look at the pictures of the ones minisport sell.  You should be able to work out dimensions from there:

https://www.minispor...on-numbers.html

You could buy the white magnetic material elsewhere and cut it to size then add the sticky numbers from there (which are 11")
