Hi chaps my new Quentin hazel bearing front has lasted all of 10 minutes and now has play in it with possibly a knock on acceleration. Going to buy a timken this time to replace but toying with the idea of getting a new hub too. What should I look out for with regards to the hub needing replacement please. From memory it does have afew marks etc from past bearing replacement I assume but doesn't look like anything has spun.

Your Quinton Hazell bearing was most likely a Timken, as were those in Unipart or Rover boxes. Your problem is likely to be the fitting process, or the condition of the other parts involved.

QH bearing was only 18 quid from motor factors so perhaps a modern cheap rehash.

In that case, possibly a counterfeit QH, from the same factory as all the bogus bearings, and something else to watch out for. If it had been New Old Stock, 18 quid would be about right for a genuine part. That would be about what I used to pay in the 1980s.

Quinton Hazel is not the same these days.  They went bust and were then bought by Tetrosyl who use them as an own brand for a number of products.

Well, thanks for that information. I haven't actually seen QH around lately, but now know to avoid them. Future trouble avoided, probably.
