Hello all,

I'm looking to possibly put mk1 style doors on a mk3 onwards car and was wondering if anyone knows if there's a conversion kit available as I've seen Rally sport replicas did do one before they closed down - http://www.minifinit...php?f=6&t=15149

I am aware that to fit standard mk1 doors, I'd need to change A and B panels as well as the locks etc. but I'm not looking to do that - I'm asking does anywhere sell a door to fit a later car with a rounded front bottom corner and different A panel kit.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a lot of work for very little return...

Has been discussed before:

I need new doors and A frames anyway, I was just wondering if there was a conversion kit to have mk1 style doors with the door pockets and sliding windows

As in doors to fit a mk3 onwards shell but in the style of mk1 doors

Is it the sliding Windows, hinges or both that you want ? I think arc angels used to do dummy hinges.

While not impossible, it is a lot of work to fit actual mk1 doors as they are a different size/shape.

If I was to attempt such a conversion then I'd simply gut the MKIII doors and rebuild with MKI door pockets and MKI A panels modified to suit the doors. Seems like an awful lot of work for no gain to me? If you want a MKIII to look like a MKI why not just buy a MKI?

It's a lot of work for no actual return.
Can never see the point. It will never be a Mk1 whatever is done to it any anyone with Mini knowledge will know that. Everyone else won't care as to them it's just an old Mini.

When I built my City to retro Cooper s rep. I considered using MK1 hinges (before I realised how much work it would involve)Now that it's built I certainly don't regret not making the conversion. Because I had to replace the bonnet it made sense to use a pickup one and I replaced the boot to match because I like the swing down numberplate.I enjoy watching people try to work out what's going on with my car asit has it's original '89 reg number, but in white on black plates and the rest of it looks Mk1. As you've already got the vehicle I'd say if you can afford it and like a challenge why not go ahead with a customisation - at the end of the day it's your car!

no I'm looking for mk1 STYLE doors to fit a mk3 onwards shell, I don't want to put actual mk1 doors on my mk3 shell as I'm aware of the differences.

What I was asking was if anyone knows about anywhere that sells the mk1 style doors with the rounded front bottom corners, door pockets and sliding windows - rally sport replicas used to do some but they're no longer open. What they sold was a door and A panel combo so they'd be externally hinged, look identical to the mk1 doors with the bottom curve but crucially would still fit a mk3 shell

anyone know if anyone makes/sells them anymore

Since nobody makes a replacement door in the style you want you will have to modify the MKIII to get what you want, It's not just the A panel thats different the B piller will need work as well if you want the MKI style door handles. All in all a lot of work.................................
