Swapped over the pipes and took her for a run out. Much better.

The mrs has been in the shed and now i can't find the boost gauge I had. Ordered a cheapo one to arrive tomorrow so il see what's going on boost wise.

Drove it a little harder tonight and you can feel the turbo now at about 3500 revs but nothing like I expected or remember from previous runs out. Hopefully it's just a tune up it needs now.

Yes iv paid for loads lots of work to be done. They had the car three years all in. Spent thousands with them.
There's a few jobs I'm not best pleased with but to cut a very long story short iv now got the car back and moving on with it. It's cost way to much for a still none perfect car but iv just put it behind me and looking forward to finally using it.
Boost gauge isn't currently fitted no as dash is still not as I want it. It's here ready to go on though.

Sounds like a name and shame is in order

if things don't change with their responses I might well do.

Strange situation I think though. Pretty sure most of their customers will be really happy and iv just got a rough deal.

Partly my fault and partly theirs.

I hate to judge from a few photos but I'll say...

They've left you in a position so you can finesse and tidy the installation yourself now to your tastes.

Simplify everything and you'll understand it on the way. Clean up all the wires and pipework, tidy them up, get it looking nice. Tidyness helps you see much better, if there's a leak or a fault.

There's a lot going on obviously in your engine bay but you can improve it bit by bit

If you get stuck just put a message on here I've found these guys to be very helpful

Treat yourself to some proper fuel hose clips and redo all the connections .

Your engine has been previously fitted with an aftermarket dump valve- make sure your original spring arrangement is still present in the inlet plenum. If it isn't youll be stalling tge turbo and that sounds great but isnt good for it. If it's all been blanked off get yourself a Bailey dump valve. I might be getting on a bit but I never got bored of the TISH

Your pretty much right merv. I am quite happy to finesse and make things pretty. There's just a couple of running issues I wasn't expecting to deal with before the polishing begins.

I still have the old dump valve ready to go back on. From an imprezza of memory serves.

First off the whole thing just needs a good clean when I know it's all running correctly that's where I'm going to start and slowly replace all the tired looking parts along the way.

Some of the running issues will get solved by tidying. I didn't want to come across as negative due to the fact you've spent money , but the install is lacking in care and attention to detail. (To say the least)

Get yourself familiarised with it or I fear you'll get annoyed with it. I've seen swaps that look like this and nothing but trouble

I hope you take my words as intended

I was negative to begin with but I'm just cracking on with it now. Need a few pointers but I think it will be looking good in a short time.

We don't call them projects for nothing I suppose 👍🏻

Fitted my boost gauge temporarily today.

Took it off the centre of the inlet manifold where the bolt can be seen in the first pictures.

Findings are.... it shows 20 on the vacuum side of the guage when ideling. When I speed up it moves all the way to zero until I change gear at which point it drops back down to 30

If I roll up to traffic lights no throttle it drops right down to 30 and creeps back up to 20 again.

When looking for a suitable take off point I noticed a split in the vacuum hose to the dizzy on the carb end (not sure how much this would effect things)

To summarise then, the needle doesn't go on to the boost side of the gauge for any period of time. The odd wobble under the 2psi mark but that's it

Cheers for any thoughts. Pete

Vac side of things sounds normal, but you should be seeing boost. Was this engine run and tested before the work?

Engine was fully rebuilt at the garage.

Been in contact with them and It's heading back for some re welding work so they will be looking at the engine as well.

Zero vacuum at full throttle is what any NA engine will do..

I'm going to check the actuator tomorrow and see how it's set up. See if there's any preload on there. seems to be a common issue in the past for others. Along with the wrong type of gasket without the extra hole for running the turbo.

The gasket without the hole in won't cause any issues if you're not even getting boost. The hole needs to be open to pressurise the floatbowl under boost. It will cause a big lean out as the engine comes on boost in this situation.
I'd check actuator preload for starters and check the wastegate isn't stuck open also.

We have boost! There was hardly any load on there at all. Had to turn the actuator quite a way down to get it to boost and the gauge is now showing 4psi.

Was getting frustrated burning myself and I dropped the c clip so I have to get a new one to carry on tinkering.

At least I have some progress though.
