Hello

I am looking for some help on what colour the bonnet lock striker plate should be on a Mini Pickup? The sprayshop are telling me that originally from the factory the striker plate was left on the Pickup when it was painted and hence its the same colour as the body. On the the plate was not body colour and assembled after the car was painted.

Please could someone help me and confirm if this was true or not. I don't want them to paint if with it on if its not meant to be body colour.

I have found a picture on ebay of a restored pickup - which shows it in body colour.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I am sure they were all body coloured, all the Minis I have ever had have been body coloured. I assume it was fitted ahead of paint, as they wouldn't have matched them up afterwards.

Never painted, think about it, to hold the striker plate on you would have to bolt it to the lock, never seen a painted lock.
Paint it on the job and the front panel would have no paint on under the striker plate.
The main one is I remember brand new minis coming into the body shop for accident damage repairs during delivery and the striker was never painted.

thanks for your replies - I have asked the body shop to remove the plate before they spray it.

No locks were fitted to the car until in final assembly. Slaves (temporary holding pieces) were fitted in BIW stage to hold doors, bonnet and boot lid which stayed with body through paint process. The slaves were removed in CAB1 final assembly and returned to the body assembly in West Works. Occasionally they had the build up of paint removed before reuse.
