My brothers friend has a mini van,  ive done a lot of welding on it over the last 4-5 years, before then it was in a lock up in liverpool for 15 years.

Its not far off getting back to going for a mot. Im a little worried reading about people havign DVLA problems with cars. This has been off the road for 20 years, same owner, not declared scrapped, also not sorn but then that was before sorn. The car itself has the rivited on chassis plates, but no other body numbers that i can see. Will we have any problems at mot or am i just worrying about nothing?

thanks

I'd get the new v5c in my hand before taking for the test.

oh yes, forgot to say, he kept the cars documents in his shop in liverpool, thought it was safer than his house, nad the shop got broken into and he lost the V5, so he will have to re apply for it first.

I 'think' the numbers were only stamped on shells later on? I'm not sure of the dates to be honest.

Many minis don't have the numbers stamped... they're just on the plates.
Even later minis don't always have them due to Scuttle repairs etc, I've seen many like this go through mot's no problem.

I had a 1981 X reg Mini and the VIN number was also stamped in the body shell - bonnet aperture/scuttle panel rear gutter under the rubber water seal strip. (Drivers side above master cylinders).

Earlier Minis only had the riveted chassis plate.

You'll need that to tax it anyway so I'd just get it applied for right away.
