I've had two do the same :mmkay:

Lidl sometimes do a version for about £30, not tried one but their tools are usually pretty good.

We bought one from Lidl, it broke on first use. The spindle lock jammed so you couldn't change tools. Took it back and got the money back as it felt really cheap too.

I also have one of the old Dremels, it's got to be ~10 years old. It's not had an easy life but still works fine. If you're looking for one, maybe try picking up one of the older models 2nd hand.

I also have one of the old Dremels, it's got to be ~10 years old.

I have an ancient one, pushing 20 years. It is Craftsman branded, corded, single speed and it is still running fine. My friend has burned up two with variable speed in no time flat.

I've just killed mine, but it has had a seriously hard life working on the Midas. I replaced it with one the same thanks to some vouchers so it doesn't owe me much. I did think about buying a different brand item, but having seen some of the cheaper accessories available, I stuck with what i know. There's probably better ones on the market, but I didn't have the time to do any research. Let's see how long this one lasts...

I see there's an Aldi special on offer at the mo, looks unwieldy 'n massive on their site, but if you're in there anyway. There's also a Chinese special of the switch on fleabay that doesn't cost half as much as your Dremel did.

I decided to see if I could fix the Dremel today so I had it to bits. Checked the readings across the windings and found one just under 25 ohms but the other one was zero. after a bit of prodding and tugging at the terminals this happened

The wire must have been broken inside the terminal, the pic was taken after I'd pulled the connector out of the housing.

So I soldered a short piece of copper wire onto the end.

Placed the lengthened wire over the groove in the housing and pushed the terminal back in. There's a groove in the terminal that grips the wire as you push it in - a bit like a phone wire connection. The result was the same 25ish ohms across both windings so I built it back up, plugged it in and bingo it works  :D
