This might seem like a really odd question,
I've got a 998 with a standard Alternator.
Can I run a power inverter off of the battery and still have enough charge without flattening the battery?

Reason being I've got a a set of speakers I want to see if I can use instead of buying a new system.

Cheers.

err why would you want to run an inverter. what are you powering?

and yes most inverters can be run while the engine is running as most batteries will not last long without the extra supply from the alternator.

but for speakers why?

So you want to put lethal voltages inside your car for some speakers? I'd look for another solution.
