Help Required - Unknown Electrical Connection A Plus Engine

Best Answer cian , 25 July 2017 - 08:29 PM

That's the camshaft position sensor, there's a long 2 pin connection with a rubbersised protective layer unlike any other on the loom and comes from the location of the fuel trap Go to the full post

Hello,

I have a 1997 MPI Cooper 1275cc which seems to run okay, however when the car was on the ramps I noticed a electrical connection on the back of the engine block with no connection (half way down and left of centre when viewed from the rear).  There also does not seem to be any connections nearby to plug in to it.  The image attached (not my engine) highlights the connector in question.  Can anyone tell me what the connector is and what should be plugged into it?

From memory you should have a black electrical connector, it may have been tucked away up near the bulkhead cross member the connector on the engine is for the camshaft sensor.

Thanks for your swift responses.  I will have a closer look under the bonnet on Friday to resolve the issue and I will keep you posted.

Thanks cian and RedRuby, I've just checked under the bonnet and it all makes sense.  I checked the engine management wiring diagram in my trusty Haynes manual pinpointing the camshaft position sensor in order to confirm the colours of the two wires (black/blue and red/yellow).  The long connector and rubberised protective cover on the loom as cian describes was spot on and sure enough has the correct coloured wires.  The wires and connector bizarrely were zip tied to the body behind the expansion tank!  All is now resolved.

Thanks again you guys for pointing me in the right direction.
