hi guys,

having a small dilemma regarding the shade of red to paint the mini

the request has been tartan red(RD9) but i have some creative liberties when it comes to the final decision. i want a nice deep red, something similar to that busted knuckle kinda red!

i like the tartan red but i think something a little darker would be nice, called autopaints brighton and they didnt have a chip for tartan red but had honda milano red and sent me a pic of that vs the next honda shade, san marinho red but still undicided

can anyone give any suggestions?!!

Personally I'd go with the one on the right

The left hand one looks nicer to me, but then I'm biased as I like deep reds, even my wedding dress was blood red lol

by the way have you tried Middletons in Gloucester? I know it's the other side of the country for you but they can / do ship.

I'm getting my mini paint from there x

I don't like red on minis really but if I had to choose it would be Ferrari Rosso Corsa or the metallic red used on the current model of Renault Clio. That's lovely

Rosso corsa is great, I had a ferrari 246 Dino replica that was painted in this colour and also laquered, it looked stunning and had a really deep shine.

For a mini though I would use a standard mini colour, either Flame Red or Tartan red, they also did an orangey red in the early 80's called cinnibar red (if I remember correctly).

I like the Renault red as well, it's called intense red but I don't think it's dark enough for the OP

rosso corsa was an option too, i know the reds i like but its always a tough one when its not my car!

thanks for the suggestions folks, thinking of going with the tartan red and maybe asking them to darken it ever so slightly

Think it also depends on what other colours you'll end up with on the car, roof, wheels, arches and bonnet strips as these will either highlight or drown the red you choose.

I like the skoda vrs red (corrida red i think)with a black roof. But in the end went for is Honda Le Mans red with gun metal roof and strips.

good point, its going to have an OEW roof, silver wheels, usual chrome, black interior but other than that i dont think we'll have too many other colours in there

Mines a Rover Flame Red (89). Nice deep red which looks great clean and when it's covered in London grime.
