I did this course for a number of years, it used to be cracking but there have been some issues of late (for me at least). It's not a taught course as such, that is to say there are no lectures or formal lessons, it's a take your car in and do your work under the supervision/assitance of the the tutor. I always treated it as a hired workspace really, with supervision.
I didn't enrol last year as the situation changed regarding storage of cars. The course moved from bigger premises a few years ago, and they stopped us storing our cars onsite. At the old place there was plenty of storage for cars & shells so a few of us had some pretty major projects ongoing with cars stored onsite. When they moved we couldn't store cars there so mine is now sitting sadly in a garage unfinshed. What I'm saying is it's rolling projects only these days, or panels and parts you can transport in and out on the night. Obviously with a Mini you're limited to which panels actually come off.
When I started the course the head tutors, who are still a good friends, were great. Unfortunately they left and set up their own business, and for me the course never really recovered. The last tutor was handy, but I've been told today he's gone, so I have no idea how it'll work in September. I am thinking of enrolling if I can find a suitable rolling project that can be driven to and from every week, and am allowed to buy it! One that;s already stalled isn't helping my case.
There's usually a good bunch of guys signed up and the craic can be good. It's always nice to see other guys making progress and be able to comapre notes. I found it kept me going as the project got bigger and bigger.
What they normally do is encourage you to turn up for a look around in the first few weeks of term before officially enrolling. This will give you and idea of whether it's what you want or not.
