I really would like a wide Mini, but would need to know the source of the windscreen before even thinking about attempting it. Maybe not quite so wide, just enough for a modern engine and transmission to fit comfortably.

There was also this BMC 'Maxi Mini' in 1968. A showroom display concept.
The BMC MaxiMini was used for BMC publicity displays and consisted of a central spacer section fitted inbetween two standard Mini's.

See now the Clubman works. Stick a round nose on it and that's the Mini BMW should have made.

A slightly wider & longer (50mm) classic Mini bodyshell with modern engine was built and considered by both Rover and BMW for the New MINI development project in 1995.....see Minki-2 in link below.

I'd have probably bought one of those Minki IIs, would never buy a BINI.

Why not? I love my R50......the MINI is a great car to drive and own, especially the early R50 & R53 MINI's which were designed and developed by Rover Engineers at Gaydon, with help & advice from John & Mike Cooper.

I just don't like them. I don't like the styling, it's too big, how can you call it a Mini, when it's bigger than most cars. In my opinion the Fiat 500 is the only new 'classic' that works. Now don't get me wrong I've driven a John Cooper Works and they are awesome, but it's not a Mini, it's just a wacky styled BMW. Essentially, it's a small BMW, not a Mini.
