The mini has started up first time for last 6 years no problem , been stood for couple of weeks and today just won't tick over. Battery fully charged where should I start the checks ?

The battery; stood it also still during six years? Than you could have the tension (12V) but not the current (amp).

When you have a fresh battery, checque the connection of the earthline from the battery to the bottom of the boot. 

Are you sure there is no rust there, not any. And the bolt that holds the wire to the bottom is tight?

The current has to go round and round.

My money is on battery too. How are you assessing its charge?

Battery on 12.50 with volt metre lights and stereo etc all very strong ! I tightened and checked earth straps on engine and boot , both were replaced for new a year ago

pull the plugs and give them a good clean probably fouled with not being driven properly will probably sort itself out with some miles on it.

"New aerth straps". There was no paint where you bolted them down. Both contact surfaces were totally blank? And the eyes of the battery cables are blank inside too?

Ok so i checked

 

1- earth straps , both new ish and clean contacted area

2 - battery is fully charged

3 -pulled all plugs cleaned and re checked gap - all seem fine

4 - tried checking 2 of HT lead for spark -  no spark but unsure if im doing correctly !!!!!

5- fuel is only 3 weeks old

 

how do i check for correct spark andor clean the carb ?

To check for a spark, pull a plug lead and remove the plug from the engine. Put the spark plug back into the ht lead and hold the tip of the ply against earth - head bolt is my usual spot. Whilst holding the plug against earth get someone to turn the engine over with the key. You should see a nice spark. If you don't it's time to check over the ignition circuits

I understood that he starter motor does not turn the crankshaft. Am I wrong?

i got volts to the coil , it might be the ignition module
