Confusion - wont tick over? What are we trying to say here jayjay. Not ticking over means it wont idle properly.

 

We are assuming that the starter turns the engine over (correct?) but the engine wont catch/run? Need 3 things for the engine to run; fuel, spark and air.

 

As explained above, are you getting a strong blue spark at the spark plug - if not then there is a problem with the distributor (points closed) or the coil (failed) or maybe there is just moisture in the distributor cap from sitting for the last week.

ok, the engine wont start no spark when tested! i checked voltage to the coil which is ok ! i taken the cap off and all is dry and clean !

received a new ignition module but not starting ! what else can i do ?

Make sure the firing order is correct 1-3-4-2 then check for a spark at the lead from the coil to the dizzy. If still no spark make sire the carbon brush in the top of the dizzy cap is still there and isn't stuck or worn.

Thanks for all the advice ,  to update this thread the problem was located with 2 things  the ignition module & the inner pickup coil of the dizzy were shot managed to replace both foe new parts £30 :)

 

all working fine now
