Got a second hand centre speedo. Just wondered if there was a way of matching the cars existing mileage on the Speedo.

Is it as easy as that or is there anything breakable that only shows its ugly head when its put back together and doesn't work.

i just dont bother. just take a current reading and one of the new one and advise the MOT station that the odometer has been changed.

If your worried about mileage don't bother really, as if you change the clocks or pay someone to do it for you it's time or money gone when you decide to put the original clocks back. Not only that you have to then reset the original clocks to the new higher mileage, and if your selling it no one will trust the mileage on a car without its original clocks.

I brought an 88 mini with 55k on it and had to rebuild the engine but I already figured the mileage was funky as it had non original clocks and therefore I never paid anymore than what a high mileage one was worth. This is all dispite the MOT data matching from its first online MOT.

the thing is i'm putting an old centre dial on a car that has done less than 100 miles. it would be nice if it didn't show 56,000 on it.

I had a guide somwhere, but basicly as Nick said, you push the ring to the side and then the numbers turn freely, 10 minute job

out of interest my mate bought a second hand 130mph speedo that had been 'zero'd'. The miles don't move but the needle works fine. could that be anything to do with this little yellow cog?

yes they will not have kept things in the correct positions. or not reconnected the drive for them.  take pictures of yours as you do it and then compare to his.
