I fitted a mg metro engine in my mini thirty which was a 998 originally. I used the 998 Air box which I had fitted a replacement k and n element inside. Is this ok for a 1275 or would it be restrictive?

Despite what people say, the factory airbox is actually pretty good if not better than after market as it pulls air for a cooler part of the engine. Whereas say a after market filter only pulls air from the back of the baulkhead, which gets very limited airflow so is always warm air.

I bored extra holes around the air box just to make sure, a lot quieter than a K&N cone

Think mr calver said the airbox is good till 70-75bhp. The mg airbox was good till 90ish HP.

I've got the original Cooper Carb air box and I take pipe fitted. It's a damned sight quieter than a cone, flows well and looks good, especially with the Cooper badge on tne I take. I've heard tne MG Metro box is the best.

I had trouble getting the original Cooper air box back on with the alloy rocker cover and wing bolts, didn't try very hard though because I wanted to try this little bit of 60's boy racer modding :D

Yeah it really only fits with the original black or the Metro ribbed type covers.
