You've not said what year car. Has it got the ballast set up?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the coil. Have you tested it?

Sorry 1989 and no doesn't look to have that set up the coil is looking old , I've looked at Optronic and powersoark kits which seem to be a lot better quality compare to the one I bought. I've done further research and the one electronic ignition I have fitted has bad reviews, have you had any experience with either powerspark or lumenation ?

Hi James1997,

Has yours been converted? Mines an 89 and was ballast. I've now converted to straight 12v.

Had good results with Lumenition Magnetronic module and Lumenition coil when it had the ballast resistor set-up. Now on 12v set-up, I've got the powerspark module and coil and had no problems with it over the last 24 months. Sorry, no experience on the Optronic though.

Hope this helps.

I'm not sure regards to ballast , I've got the electronic ignition fitted I was going to put a oe quality coil from euro car parts along with a new battery In the boot as mine is looking old and mabky do you think this could solve my problem.

You need to be sure my 89 is ballast ignition and running a module on ballast voltage will screw it before too long

Have a look to see if you have a pink/white wire connected to the coil. If you have, its ballast.

KernowCooper has done an excellent guide on fitting electronic ignition which might help. He also tells you how to test the coil.
